Prof. Frankl in the media on soil erosion and control in Flanders

(14-10-2020)

Soil is our most valuable natural resource, but is locally being lost at high rates due to erosion. Therefore, the Department of Geography is investigating soil erosion control solutions such as vegetation barriers. Their effectiveness has been studied recently with different partners from East-Flanders. Furthermore, the erosion-indicator of the Flemish Government shows that for at least 50 square kilometres, erosion rates are very high. “We have to define what is tolerable as erosion in Flanders, as climate change may even worsen things” Prof. Frankl says.
